Device Optimization and Large‐Scale Roll‐to‐Roll Manufacturability of Flexible Thin‐Film Thermoelectric Generators

The optimization of flexible thin-film thermoelectric generators (TEGs) suitable for large-area roll-to-roll (R2R) processing is investigated. selection contact materials, in-line patterning connections, and dimension the (TE) strip are studied. As a result, copper selected contacts because it possesses similar performance to gold while being cheaper. Both in-series- in-parallel-connected devices found work well provide voltage-dominant current-dominant power source, respectively. To authors’ knowledge, this first study that experimentally proves downward trend output increasing length. In addition, an industrially feasible/continuous process proposed large-scale manufacture TEGs, by R2R sputtering materials on polymer webs, inkjet printing contacts, segmenting using laser. segmented configuration able relieve strains in device, subjected bending (e.g., within wristband) retain performance.
